Tom DiCillo, is a director who has provided me with a couple of great ones including Living in Oblivion.

In fact, I haven't event got to the beginning yet. I previously recommended a film called The Wings of Desire by Wim Wenders - he’s not even my favorite director. The guy who inspires me with artistic film sensibilities is, Jim Jarmusch. I have pretty much tried to see everything he has made. But, to get back to my point, after seeing a bunch of Jarmusch films I started really liking this director named Tom DiCillo. Only later to find out that he had worked as a cinematographer with Jim Jarmusch.

Anyway, this one, Box of Moonlight was one that I went to see with a friend named Tim Timmerman. Neither of us knew what to expect, but I really loved this and found out later who the director was, and his history with some of my other favorite movies.

John Turturro and Sam Rockwell are cast as opposites in this journey film. I can relate to both sides of this pairing, because I can be high-strung and uptight like Turturro but also as aimless as Rockwell's character “the kid.”

The particular journey that Turturro experiences is one that brings him full circle in finding out who he is, and brings him into a stronger course of life once he returns to the life he was running from. Now if that wasn’t confusing enough - watch this when you get a chance.

At a site called imagekind.com, I just wanted to offer prints of works that are no longer available or have been requested many times over. This is a new feature for me - prints! This includes work from my worker series, object series, and features paintings of guys shoveling. Women working. Spiritual themes and a couple of pieces from the “elements” show that was at Gallery W in Sacramento, circa 1994. I think interior designers can really use this site. Some of these originals were too expensive to be purchased for a Dr's office, but now I think they can fit the bill.

I plan on offering some of the favorites that people have had over the years. Del Nero Artwork, normally in the business of selling original artwork only, now is bringing these works as either printed on paper, framed and shipped directly to you. Or, if you prefer they can print it on canvas and stretch it on to stretcher bars like the originals.

This is a great site to see some of the work, size it, price it and buy it. I can occasionally offer discounts on shipping, framing or an over-all percentage discount. Check it out when you get a chance -

Essential Films - "The Wings of Desire"

This is a must-see in my "essential film" list. I am ready to re-watch this one. I have not seen this particular film in probably 8 years or so, but I am reminded about it today. This inspires me to suggest a line of movies to watch. To know me better you will need to see this film.

This is directed by Wim Wenders, one of my favorite directors. It has some great cameo performances, but it stars Bruno Ganz - as an angel. This is NOT - Travolta in "Michael" that was a cheap Hollowood - rip off. yes, the spelling was intentional.

Slow Motion Video - Burning 50

This video is a memorial to the celebration tower that Janet made for Mary's 50th birthday. Since it was designed to be burned, we anticipated a big party to burn it. But we just couldn't bring ouselves to do it. In fact, this burning took place a full two years later. after many days of trial and error, and not a few online searches and phone calls - I believe my technical difficulties around here are finished. I think it all started when we had an electrical storm last weekend. Our wireless network has had to be dealt with, my Wacom™ tablet went awry - and then my printer has been "on the fritz."

without my pressure sensitive tablet - I am a gonner as an illustrator. I am back in business.

Now I think I am ready to go forward with all of the above items fixed.

But working alone from his Gilbert home office soon felt more like a pity party than the new challenge he was looking for.

Isolation set in and he struggled to stay focused.

Three times a week, Shaffer started going to Gangplank, a walk-in office space in Chandler where about 20 home-based professionals can plug in their laptops and work independently while sitting next to each other. There is a new trend starting to happen in Phoenix. And I like it.

Some small, non-franchise businesses are sprouting up around here and it's such a refreshing trend. They each are catering to specific needs around town, and especially making something that we can enjoy as specific destinations in our community. They are all places to gather, with a focus on being a place to enjoy a unique experience around Phoenix. These three mentioned just happen to be the one's near our house in north/central Phoenix:

School's Out

My girls are both out of school now - I picked up Milan at SDCC on Tuesday and we drove back with her roommate Lauren.

Mary finished yesterday for Christmas break -- as soon as she got home we went to a theater showing It's A Wonderful Life on a big screen -- really a great way to see it if you never have. It is so ruined by being shown so much on TV.
