Essential Films - "The Wings of Desire"

This is a must-see in my "essential film" list. I am ready to re-watch this one. I have not seen this particular film in probably 8 years or so, but I am reminded about it today. This inspires me to suggest a line of movies to watch. To know me better you will need to see this film.

This is directed by Wim Wenders, one of my favorite directors. It has some great cameo performances, but it stars Bruno Ganz - as an angel. This is NOT - Travolta in "Michael" that was a cheap Hollowood - rip off. yes, the spelling was intentional.

here are some other recommendations: DNA Film Page

stay tuned for more...

Slow Motion Video - Burning 50

This video is a memorial to the celebration tower that Janet made for Mary's 50th birthday. Since it was designed to be burned, we anticipated a big party to burn it. But we just couldn't bring ouselves to do it. In fact, this burning took place a full two years later. This is the slow-motion version, and there is a "making of" version available here too. take a look - and thank you Conery's for this event.

Jay Potter my hero - aka "the republican"

Is Using A Minotaur To Gore Detainees A Form Of Torture?

Techno-Torture

after many days of trial and error, and not a few online searches and phone calls - I believe my technical difficulties around here are finished. I think it all started when we had an electrical storm last weekend. Our wireless network has had to be dealt with, my Wacom™ tablet went awry - and then my printer has been "on the fritz."

without my pressure sensitive tablet - I am a gonner as an illustrator. I am back in business.

Now I think I am ready to go forward with all of the above items fixed.

SMOCA

I just submitted one of my stereo units to a show at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art - they asked for artists to bring "sound objects" - here's on of mine, called "Youth Friend"

OK- so there are two Nick Caves!

I stand corrected. now I know.

this one is the one I was most familiar with, the post punk one.

…and this one, I just became aware of - the most creative artist and performer/dancer/designer
I have a new found respect for the other Nick Cave

Independent workers look to Gangplank for support

Meet-ups offer companionship, motivation

Steven Shaffer said starting his own company was a no-brainer when he lost his job in February.

But working alone from his Gilbert home office soon felt more like a pity party than the new challenge he was looking for.

Isolation set in and he struggled to stay focused.

"The good thing about being in an organization is structure. Whether it's bad or good, you know how to get things done through a certain process," he said. "Going out on your own, one of the first problems you encounter is 'Well, what do I do first?' "

Three times a week, Shaffer started going to Gangplank, a walk-in office space in Chandler where about 20 home-based professionals can plug in their laptops and work independently while sitting next to each other. The crowd is part of a growing network of solo workers who meet regularly in coffee shops and drop-in offices for each other's professional guidance and companionship. read more...

What is Happening to Phoenix?

There is a new trend starting to happen in Phoenix. And I like it.
Some small, non-franchise businesses are sprouting up around here and it's such a refreshing trend. They each are catering to specific needs around town, and especially making something that we can enjoy as specific destinations in our community. They are all places to gather, with a focus on being a place to enjoy a unique experience around Phoenix. These three mentioned just happen to be the one's near our house in north/central Phoenix:

Bombero's http://www.bomberoswinebar.com — this is a great place to spend an evening, and now they are open for breakfast, so about any time of the day you can enjoy this place.

Scramble http://www.azscramble.com — my favorite stammtisch

Luci's http://www.lucishealthymarketplace.com — Randy introduced us to this place last night, we'll be going back soon.
